During this clinic you'll spend the day personally working with Tony Ciarelli and Mac Wilkins learning what has made him so successful year after year. Throwers will be divided into groups based on their PR. Each group will have the opportunity to work with our World Class Staff. All participating Instructors have been or are currently ranked in the Top 10 in the US! Hands-on instruction from 2004 US discus Champ and Olympic team member Jarrod Rome , Olympic Team Member Ian Waltz, 2003 US discus Champ and 2004 US Olympic Team alternate Carl Brown, 12 time Canadian discus Champ and 2 time World and Olympic competitor Jason Tunks, 03' US World Team member Nick Petrucci, and 2002 Indoor world shot put team member John Davis. Collectively our staff, have competed internationally, earned 28+ All American honors, and have competed in over 40 championship events. Erik Johnson: Co-Director/Instructor- 1993 NCAA All-American, U of Colorado, US Ranked #8 1996, #32 World List, Finalist 96' US Olympic Trials. PR 207'4"
Erik understands the value of Tony's knowledge first hand. Erik began working with Tony in 1995. In the Spring of 1996 he began training with Tony full time and added 15 feet to his discus PR that season. In 1996 Erik teamed up with Tony to help grow the Throws Clinic with the goal of promoting the throws and helping to increase the number of high quality coaches and throwers in the state.

Mac Wilkins: Mac Wilkins' career spanned 23 years, four Olympic teams and four world records. He will be remembered as one of the greatest all-around throwers of all-time. Wilkins set lifetime bests of 69-1 1/4 in the shot put, 232-10 in the discus, 208-10 in the hammer throw and 257-4 in the javelin. He set the world discus record four times and five times set the American discus mark. A member of four U.S. Olympic teams, Wilkins achieved his greatest Olympic fame in 1976 when he won the gold medal after setting an Olympic record of 224-0 in the preliminaries. He was also on the 1980 U.S. Olympic team that didn't compete, placed second at the 1984 Games and was fifth at the 1988 Games. In addition, Wilkins was the 1979 Pan American Games champion, was second in the 1977 and 1979 World Cups and was 10th at the 1983 World Champion ships. He was top-ranked in the world in 1976 and 1980 and was the top-rated U.S. discus thrower eight times, including six in a row from 1976 to 1982.

1st female regional USAW Weightlifting coach, she was the Head Strength Coach for HBHS Athletics for the 9 years. She has been at Newport Harbor High School since 2005. She was the meet Director for the 2002 US Junior National Weightlifting Championships. In 2007 she was named Womens Head coach for the Junior World Championship Team. Stephanie has also had many National Champions over the years.  

Maryn Ciarelli: Weightlifting PR's Sn=80kg C+J=100kg Maryn has been lifting for 15 years and has accomplished many things. 2006 All-American, 2006 National Collegiate Champion, 2005 World Team Champion, 2004 Olympic Trials Qualifier, 3 Time World University Team Member, 2001 Jr. Pan Am Champion

Scott Semar: Throws Coach
Scott is one of the premier High School Coaches in the US. He has coached several High School All-Americans, and CA State Champions. In 2002 he coached Rachael Varner who won the CA state title in Shot Put (48') and had the #2 best high school discus man in the country and 19th overall best US discus performance (178'0").

Paul Fleschler: Weightlifting Paul is the Men's Resident Weightlifting Coach for USA Weightlifting. His main responsibility is preparing the Men's Resident weightlifting athletes at the Olympic Training Center for all domestic and international competitions. The year 2006 marks Paul's 25th year being involved with USA Weightlifting as an athlete, coach and administrator. Paul is a certified U.S. International Coach and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Before moving to Colorado in the summer of 2001, Paul served as the Head Strength Coordinator for Indiana University Basketball. In addition to working with Coach Bob Knight's basketball team, Paul assisted with 22 other varsity sports at IU. As an athlete, Paul's greatest honor was representing the United States at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Unable to attend this year

Wes Barnett: Weightlifting Wes is the Executive Director for USA Weightlifting. He oversees the full-time staff located at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. He also serves as liaison with the USOC and oversees national competitions and team selections. Barnett was a member of the 1992 and 1996 U.S. Olympic Teams, finishing 15th and sixth respectively. He was also a 92-95, 97 & 99 National Champion. He won silver (clean and jerk) and bronze (overall) medals at the 1997 World Championships. To this day, Barnett holds the American record in the clean and jerk in the 108kg class with a lift of 484 pounds and holds the record as well in total weight at 869 pounds. Barnett holds a degree in Media Management/Broadcasting from the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs. Barnett and his wife, Carol Lyn, have one son, Michael. Unable to attend this year
